Changing the Color of an Appliance

You may have redecorated your kitchen and find that the color of the appliances no longer fits in. Before you consider buying a new refrigerator/freezer, range, or dishwasher, you might want to investigate the possibility of having the present unit refinished by a company that specializes in such work. Companies that refinish appliances are listed in the yellow pages of man\, phone books under ".Appliances, Household—Refinishing.' Most of these services are able to do the job right in your home, charging between $100 and $200 per appliance. Expect to use the appliance until approximately 48 hours after it has been painted. And, no matter what the company may say, paint sprayed on a range may in time take on a yellowish tinge in areas affected by heat. If you can't locate a refinishing company in your area, an automobile body shop can do the job. However, there are two disadvantages to having the job done by the body shop first, the cost may almost equal, or perhaps exceed, the price of a new appliance, so make sure you understand all the charges you have to pay before proceeding and second, you will probably have to haul the appliance to the shop to have the work done.
